GayRealEstate.com, a service which connects buyers and sellers with compatible agents, found that many of their LGBTQ clients worry their children will face discrimination. The GayRealEstate.com team is committed to supporting LGBTQ families and will continually work for the equal treatment of everyone, regardless of their sexual orientation and/or gender identity, or that of their parents.
Between 2 and 3.7 million children under age 18 have an LGBTQ parent, and approximately 200,000 of them are being raised by a same-sex couple, according to U.S. Census Bureau statistics. Many of these children are being raised by a single LGBTQ parent or by a different-sex couple where one parent is bisexual.
Likewise, between 10 to 30 percent of LGBTQ homebuyers are parents, according to a recent survey of GayRealEstate.com’s more than 1500 partner agents. An estimated two million LGBTQ people are interested in adopting and same-sex parents are raising about four percent of all adopted children in the United States, according to the Movement Advancement Project (MAP).
Although research shows that children with gay and lesbian parents are as well adjusted as children with heterosexual parents, they can face some additional challenges, according to the American Academy of Child Adolescent Psychiatry. Some LGBTQ families face discrimination in their communities and children may be teased or bullied by peers.
Particularly in the last few years, there has been a notable increase in hate crimes and hostility toward LGBTQ people, according to the Family Equality Council. That’s why GayRealEstate.com is working to eliminate sexual orientation/gender identity-based discrimination with financial contributions, activism and the services they provide.
The GayRealEstate.com team works to identify the best LGBTQ-friendly cities and
communities in each state and region of the country and cultivates relationships and deep networks in each, to provide their clients the support they need to find ideal residency. GayRealEstate.com provides this service as an option to bypass the potential for anxiety, discrimination and inequitable treatment.
GayRealEstate.com continually strives for the protection of all people and will continue to advocate for the full and equal treatment of all individuals: in real estate markets and all areas of life.
