Real estate service attends harvey milk breakfast in support of diverse communities

GayRealEstate.com Participated in Harvey Milk Diversity Breakfast to Benefit Educational and Support Efforts in the Greater Palm Springs Region
Press Release - May 23, 2019

GayRealEstate.com, a service which connects buyers and sellers with compatible agents, participated in the annual Harvey Milk Diversity Breakfast which occurred from 9:30 to 11 a.m. on May 15 at the Palm Springs Convention Center. The event was held to celebrate the life of Milk, bolster the coalition of diverse communities in the region and raise funds for educational and support efforts in the greater Palm Springs community.

The breakfast was hosted by Palms Springs PRIDE which sought to bring together all who support equality and justice to celebrate the memory of Milk, an influential civil rights activist. GayRealEstate.com donated 1,000 dollars to purchase a table for 10 for the event. The event hosted many high schoolers with the express purpose of educating and supporting youth in the region.

Activities made possible by funds raised through the Harvey Milk Diversity Breakfast include: empowering youth to educate schools and communities on key issues to students, supporting peer mobilization efforts, working to create safer schools and healthier communities for LGBTQ youth, advocating for just policies that protect LGBTQ youth from harassment and violence and providing resources for students to organize with other youth groups (across identity lines) to both socialize and address broader issues of oppression.

Milk became one of the first openly gay men elected to political office in the United States when he was elected to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors in 1977. He was assassinated (along with Mayor George Moscone) on November 27, 1978, eleven months after his election. The example of his life and leadership made him an important national symbol for the struggle for human rights.
