Killeen began as a small railroad town focusing primarily on agriculture in the 1880s, but it grew quickly. Camp Hood was established in 1942, and the city has been an important military center ever since. PFLAG Austin is the Killeen area’s chapter of the national PFLAG organization. PFLAG is the largest grassroots organization of its kind in the country and has 500 chapters with more than 200,000 members in the United States. PFLAG plays a critical role in providing advocacy, support, and resources to the LGBTQ community, and offers monthly support meetings, as well as resources, advocacy, and networking opportunities for the LGBTQ community, friends, and allies.

Stillhouse Hollow Lake

Stillhouse Hollow Lake is a beautiful lake occupying over 2400 acres and run by the US Army of Corps Engineers. While it is helpful to provide water supply and flood control to the area, it’s also a source of great fun – activities like swimming, fishing, boating, or simply relaxing on a beautiful day can be enjoyed.

The Boulders Sport Climbing Center

Since 2000, the Boulders Sport Climbing Center has been a must-try experience for those in Killeen who love challenge and adventure.  Experienced and inexperienced climbers can practice together on the 30- foot rappel tower, 40-foot climbing walls, and a giant standing boulder too. The Center offers classes and climbing clinics as well.
