Reading, Pennsylvania, is a good sized city and heart of the Greater Reading Area. The city is probably most famous for being the site of the Reading Railroad, which was made popular in the game Monopoly. Even though the railroad is defunct, Reading is still one of the busiest cities in the state. A number of different pretzel bakeries are headquartered in the city, and many people visit Reading to shop in its outlet malls.
There are many different areas in the city where LGBT people are welcomed. In fact, some say that most of Reading is like a gay community because there are same-sex couples everywhere. However, many call the Centre Park Historic District the center of gay life in Reading. Centre Park is full of great restaurants, shops, and theater. It’s a relaxed area with great houses that have been preserved over the years.
You won’t find a lot of condos among these historic buildings. There are, however, a good number of single family homes. When people purchase one, they usually stay there for years, so finding a home on the market can be difficult. When you do, though, you’ll find that they’re quite affordable. Houses range from $60,000 to $500,000.
