Portsmouth, NH's Top LGBT Neighborhoods and Home Prices

The city of Portsmouth, New Hampshire, is a very open, friendly city.  It’s actually the only city located in Rockingham County, even though it’s not the largest community in that county.  During the summer, though, Portsmouth’s population tends to balloon as tourists visit to see the historic seaport and other areas.

There are many LGBT people who live in Portsmouth.  Civil unions have been legal in the state since 2008, and in 2010, same-sex marriage became legal.  Many same-sex couples made the trek to New Hampshire to get married, and some fell in love with Portsmouth and decided to stay.  Because the city is so open, there’s no real gay neighborhood.  Same-sex couples and LGBT people live throughout the small city.

Real estate in the city isn’t too expensive when compared to the surrounding area.  Condos range from $250,000 to $3.125 million.  Single-family homes are a little more affordable: they start at $89,000 and top off at around $$12.9 million for one of the large mansions in the area.
