While it’s often mistaken for the larger South Carolina city, Columbia, Maryland deserves to be recognized for its own merits. It has several gay neighborhoods. In fact, some people say that just about every village or small neighborhood in the city qualifies. Columbia is the largest city of Howard County, a county that has been very progressive in the area of LGBT rights. Antidiscrimination laws were passed back in 1975! It’s no wonder that there are plenty of diverse people living in the city.
Columbia often ranks on CNN Money’s list of Best Places to Live in America. Part of this may be due to the fact that Howard County is one of the wealthiest counties in the country. But don’t assume that means housing costs are going to be ridiculous. Condos start at $100,000 and range to $600,000.
Single family homes in Columbia are a little more expensive. They start at $420,000 and top out at $1.15 million dollars.
