Located on the banks of the Chattahoochee, “Fountain City,” as Columbus is known, is home to many military personnel thanks to nearby Fort Benning. The city has many different museums and has a number of outdoor recreational activities.  Education and healthcare are also major industries centered in Columbus.  Columbus also isn’t very far from Atlanta and Auburn University. A Look at Columbus's History

The area that is now Columbus was originally inhabited primarily by Creek Indian tribes. Its more modern-day history began with its founding in 1828 as a trading post along the river. It was an important center of the cotton trade from the time of its founding, eventually growing to be an important center of agriculture, trade, and industry in several other areas as well, not to mention being home to one of the country's largest military training bases. As it grew, the city became increasingly diverse, and it remains so to this day. Today, Columbus is a diverse, vibrant, and thriving city with so much to offer. For so many reasons, Columbus would be a great place to call home.

PFLAG Columbus

PFLAG is the local chapter of the national PFLAG organization serving the Columbus area. PFLAG is the largest grassroots organization of its kind in the country and has 500 chapters with more than 200,000 members in the United States. PFLAG plays a critical role in providing advocacy, support, and resources to the LGBTQ community, and offers monthly support meetings, as well as resources, advocacy, and networking opportunities for the LGBTQ community, friends, and allies.

Colgay Pride

Colgay Pride is an LGBTQ community group serving the entire Columbus area. The mission of the group is to build a stronger and more united LGBTQ community through support, fun, advocacy, event planning, and plenty of opportunities to connect and build community.

Coca Cola Space Science Center

The Coca-Cola Space Science Center is located in the heart of downtown Columbus’s Historic District, and it is a wonderful and unique experience for all. This museum houses Georgia's largest collection of NASA Space Shuttle artifacts and a wide variety of interactive exhibits. Visitors can try out their piloting skills, experience a simulated rocket launch, try virtually driving a rover around the surface of Mars, and more. It's a unique experience you won't want to miss.

Whitewater Express

If you’re looking for adventure, you'll want to try out the Whitewater Express, which is one of the world’s longest urban whitewater courses and is located on the Chattahoochee River. Visitors can choose from a variety of courses depending upon experience and thrill-seeking level. Bike rentals are even available to bike the length of the RiverWalk for those who prefer to stay on land.

The Sound Factory

Although not specifically an LGBTQ bar, The Sound Factory is friendly and welcoming to all, and is one of the most popular nightspots in Columbus. The bar offers karaoke, lively dance floors, great music, strong drinks, and friendly crowds. You'll definitely want to put it on your list of great places to go on a night out in Columbus!
