Lafayette is a good-sized city in southwestern Louisiana. It’s the fourth-largest city in the state with more than 120,000 people. Nicknamed the Hub City, Lafayette was originally called Vermilionville at its founding but was later renamed for General Lafayette, a French officer who fought for the colonies in the American Revolutionary War.
