Fort Collins is a northern Colorado town nestled in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, 65 miles north of Denver. The city is 5000 feet above sea level and is known for the sharp cliffs of Horsetooth Mountain that dominates the city skyline. It has a population of 143,986 and was first founded as a military outpost in 1864.  Not only is Fort Collins scenic but also it still retains a lot of its original historical architecture.

Gay Realtor Fort CollinsFort Collins still is and always was a very conservative city and for decades it was known as a non-drinking town.  Since then it has become more progressive due to the fact that it is home to Colorado State University that gives it a more liberal college town atmosphere.  The University sponsors most of the music events in the city.  The Fort Collins Downtown Business Association also hosts many festivals including the Bohemian Festival and numerous events that support the area’s many microbreweries including the Colorado Brewer’s Festival.  On the artier side the city it is also home to The Center for Fine Art Photography, the Fort Collins Museum of Contemporary Art and the Bas Bleu Theater Company.

There are only two gay bars here even though the city is quite large.  Popular with both gays and lesbians is Shots Choice City that has lots of drag shows and theme nights.  There is also the Fox Bar that features loud music and dancing go-go boys.  To find the neighborhood that is right for your particular situation it is a very good idea to consult with a Fort Collins gay realtor who will be more than happy to show you available properties.

The city is considered to be a very safe place to live with Allstate Insurance listing it as “America’s Safest Driving City” in 2011 with drivers being 26.8% less likely to be in an accident than the national average. In 2012 CBS Money Watch listed it as among the ten best places to live in all of the United States.

One exceptional feature of Fort Collins is that thanks to a program called FortZed it is fast becoming the world’s largest zero energy district. The entire downtown and the main campus of Colorado University utilizes Smart grids and other renewable energy technology to meet urban power demands. This is just one of the many reasons to feel very good about living in Fort Collins.

This is a desirable place to live and the average price per square foot for a home here this summer was $168 per square foot, which was an increase of 5.7% from the same period in 2012.  The average listing price as of the week ending September 15, 2013 was $379,869.00.
