James was born and raised in Lexington, NC (the BBQ Capital of the World!). For more than five years, he worked as a store manager, then a district manager for a wireless retailer, managing stores in Winston-Salem, Charlotte, Concord, Pineville, Matthews, Spartanburg, and Greenville. After living in Charlotte for three years, James moved to Greenville and fell in love with the Upstate.
In 2004, James attended the Wyatt Institute of Real Estate and obtained his real estate license. Prior to joining The Marchant Company, James was affiliated with another local company where he sold over 100 homes in five years.
James served as the First Vice Chair of the Greenville County Democratic Party in 2011-2012 as well as a Greenville County and South Carolina Delegate for Hillary Clinton in 2008. In January 2012 James was ranked as one of the top five twitter accounts to follow for SC Presidential Primary news and was featured in a Washington Post story about the use of social media in modern campaigns. James has served on Greenville Forward’s Inclusion Task Force Committee as well as the Buildings & Grounds and Communications Committees at the yWca of Greenville. He is a Charter Member of Greenville Rotaract and served as the Social Media VP in 2011-2012. In 2012 he join the Julie Valentine Center’s Run2Overcome 5k/10k Committee and is the 2013 Committee Chair. In 2009, James was selected as one of Greenville’s Best and Brightest 35 and under by Greenville Magazine.
