The number of metro areas showing improvements in housing permits, employment, and home prices grew to 125 in November, and marks the third straight monthly gain for the index, according to the American Improving Markets Index.
The monthly index by the National Association of Home Builders and First American identifies metro areas that for at least six consecutive months have posted gains in housing permits, employment and home prices.
In November, the index added 22 more metro areas to its list over the previous month. Among the metros added in November included San Diego, Calif.; Gainesville, Fla.; Omaha, Neb.; Louisville, Ky.; and Charlotte, N.C.
“The solid increase in the number of improving housing markets this month illustrates the degree to which the housing recovery has gained momentum since we initiated the IMI last year,” noted NAHB Chief Economist David Crowe. “Compared to the 30 markets that made the list as of November 2011, we now have 125, which is about one-third of all the markets surveyed for this index.”
